The Great Schism seems to have escaped the notice of Latin artists, as this breviary made about 1100 at the Abbey of Montecassino in a very Byzantinizing style shows. The miniature shows the presentation of Jesus in the Temple (Candlemas).

I'm going to start posting art I enjoy (with a focus on the mediaeval period).

In this initial from Florentine a book of Lauds ca. 1300-1310, the Wise Kings look in amazement at the Star of Bethlehem. The style in strongly inspired by that of Giotto (who never painted books).
