Don't like to be chained to my car.
My favorite scene in Ted Lasso is in S1E1 when he leaves his new home and is surprised by the coffee shop right just footsteps away. The last episode when he drives to his car-dependent suburb in Wichita is the contrast.

Who knew Eric Adams was rich enough to fly private?

why should a single unit be less efficient than a split where the fan-thingy is just a foot or two away?

Plot twist: High-viz clothes are *more* dangerous for pedestrians.

"Wearing high-visibility clothing could actually make [cars' pedestrian detection] technology less likely to spot a person strolling in the dark."
'Embarrassment': Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking Still Flawed at Night — Streetsblog USA
Relying solely on vehicle automation for pedestrian detection and collision avoidance is not advised, a new study said.

Do you think this was related to the problems on the L train?

My County bus system has 18 cameras on each bus. Plenty of security. Now cue the next pundit who complains about drivers being subject to a surveillance state and completely ignoring bus riders.

He was at the Free Beacon and now Manhattan Institute, solidly right-wing organs. Not a centrist. His lifetime career focus is anti-social behavior.

fwiw, I used to ride the M14 bus more between Union Square and Meatpacking, but turning 14th street into a busway made it so darn pleasant a street to walk that I just do that. It's my fave street in NYC to walk. For longer trips btw Chelsea to LES and Chinatown, I still ride M14 for speed.

sure, a small number moved to the Hamptons and Litchfield County during COVID, but a lot of them realized it was pretty boring out there and are coming back. Given the traffic, it is a long trip to go and see a Broadway show.

i'm not worried. like all statues, they will gradually lose all meaning to later generations and be seen as a historical curiosity.

Lots of excitement over SB 79—understandably. I would add, every single bill California YIMBY sent to the governor was signed today. www.gov.ca.gov/2025/10/10/g...

Read the Washington Post article about this guy who even though completely screwed by Trump Admin, still supports him. And he doesn't seem like a true believer. www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/...
His wife was dying, his federal job crumbling. It tested his faith — in God and Trump.
One federal worker was rejected three times from the administration’s early resignation offer. Would he blame the president he voted for?
