Today I’m supporting the @inacademyofscience.bsky.social with fun hands-on engagement for kids at the annual “Celebrate Science Indiana” festival. I enjoy this event and all the great people I’ve met at both CSI & IAS. Join us in our community for supporting science & science education in our state!

I was thinking about Paramecium last night—how cool & mysterious these single-celled microbes are. All the scientists I know are depressed about the politics of science funding. Maybe it’s time for everyone to go back to school, stare at Paramecium under the microscope, & wonder at the world again.

I’m apparently too worn out by the news plus trying to live my life that I’m just not using this site the way I wanted to. But I appreciate the posts I read when I remember to check in on the people I follow. Thank you for your content! Here’s a beautiful neighborhood hibiscus for your efforts.

Spotted outside my Indy neighborhood library branch. I suspect he would have a good number of supporters. 😄 #HoosierSky

Facilitating great science and science communication all day at the Indiana Academy of Science annual meeting. @billsullivan.bsky.social called some of us out as being potential Toxoplasma zombies. Over lunch. Yummy. #SciComm #HoosierSky @inacademyofscience.bsky.social

I’m still new to tea. Enjoying my new electric kettle to make some green tea to help me prep my #SciComm workshop for this weekend’s @inacademyofscience.bsky.social annual conference.

I didn’t make it to a #standupforscience2025 rally today, but I repped science at the gym.

Ending the week on a positive note: I completed my work as a peer reviewer for Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) grant proposals this week. It was an interesting and rewarding process! Also, the sun is shining, and spring is on the way.

When I’m not thinking about science or science communication, I’m often making music. I had a lot of fun yesterday introducing a small group of people to handbells. Music brings me joy and can bring people together to lift our spirits and foster a sense of connection. #handbells #music

A restoring faith in humanity moment for today. Picked up this book at the local public library, where a kind library worker returned to me a get-well card I had used as a bookmark that they found in a book I had previously returned. Thank you, wonderful libraries. 📚💚

Finding joy today in a couple of bluebirds that stopped by my snowy backyard. Here’s one of them.

I won a door prize at a staff picnic this week—dolphin art! Now installed on my office wall for another *splash* of color. 🐬💦🎨

Helene’s outer edges passed through Indiana and generated mostly minor damage. Thinking of those facing catastrophic flooding and power outages further south. Modern hurricanes are powerful.

People are sharing their impressive “I’m #50,000–whoa!” stats. I’m…well, not that cool. But I’m enjoying the site, and who doesn’t need a little joyful “thank you” from time to time? 🎉
