My favourite mispronunciation of an Irish name wasn't even because of the Irishness of it - a Welsh commentator saw Jack Aungier (Connacht, previously Leinster and now Ireland) and went all French with it - fair enough if he was in a French team - but it's pronounced Ain-Ger (like Danger)

Yrs ago listening to a Wexford match in a pub in Gorey on local radio - wasn't televised - the few of us there realised how much of a throwback it was - tight game that Wexford lost at the death - commentator asked his colleague what he thought - "those feckin bastards" - we all cheered
