One thing I’ve learned about color prints is there’s no reason to leave any negative space at all. If I do another version of this I’m putting the moonflowers all the way up through the background. More is More.

Yesterday I got to go to the collections of the Illinois State Museum and walk through the treasures. It was an honor and a thrill and totally free. I’m not even special or important and I got to do this just like anyone who signed up. Thank you Illinois State museum!

Just so excited for the variations in this layers. It’s been a long time since I’ve had so much fun working on my craft.

At my big girl job when they talk about using generative AI it makes me so deeply disappointed and sad and grossed out.

I sat down to write my weekly/monthly intentions this morning and the best I could come up with was “I will not despair.” If that’s the best can do I’m happy with it.

Here’s a real time learning experience for me. I thought I could use process cyan right out of the tube for the blue layer. Turns out it’s too dark and transparent for what I wanted. I had to check the website for Canfield and they said to mix with opaque white to get a medium blue. That fixed it.

Key block for my reduction Lino all carved. Kind of didn’t know what to do with myself since I’m used to carving more shading and that’s not necessary as much with having a color block. I really hope this works out

4th layer! I love a grass green.

I thought I would read “literature” instead of the contemporary books I generally read. Y’all it’s hard. I’m reading Frankenstein and I’m struggling. I had no idea how much my reading skills had declined. I feel like in college and high school I could handle stuff like this.

I’ve got 4 prints on the table to experiment with color. Each is a different skill I’m trying to learn; bright colors, neutrals, “people” and monochromatic. Wish me energy and luck

Dad’s game cameras in the woods behind his house in Knoxville are such a source of inspiration. Right beneath and behind a bustling, growing city wilderness makes a stand in whatever small ways it can. People come to TN for this and then choke it out when it’s in the way or inconvenient.

3rd layer drying. I guess Bluesky is really for writing and not pictures but oh well

It’s really starting to feel like I’m doing something with this. I’m on my 3rd layer and I’m starting to see progress towards what I wanted. I feel confident enough now to draw a couple more out I’ve been thinking of.

2nd color in the reduction print! Next I’ll print a teal layer.

I’m desperately trying to figure out how to do a print of this peacock from the museum of Appalachia.

Trying color again but this time a reduction block for color and a key block for black and white. Fingers crossed

Color print experimenting did not go as planned. On the plus side I’ve learned and made some decisions which should help me do better in the future. On the negative side…yikes

The last creature I was expecting on a cold December day. They were just poking out of the leaf litter and their burrow for some quick rays in the sun.
