Zen monk sharing cloud and water notes on experience of experiencing.
Zen is releasing the mythology created by thought and strengthened by conditioning. In my experience, liberation is rarely about adding more or becoming more. It comes through removing what clouds seeing and being. Addition by subtraction. Less can very definitely be more.

When I stopped living under the needy, greedy delusion that I was in competition... with others, with my current self gaming against a past self I thought was shitty, against a future self who would finally be "not as disappointing..." as a result of what I was artificially conditioned to value...

Awakening is a personal experience of what is Universal. For this reason in our own way, we must come to the Reality of Jikō... our Universal identity, through the art of noticing what IS.

Reflections on Chisokū (知足)... having the ability to appreciate that when we're not entangled in thought we might be able to notice that we have enough and are enough.

Lessons of Ruth that have efforted to abide by, on a consistent basis. I don’t always do it perfectly… But that’s why it’s a process and not an event.

Thinking hasn’t disappeared. What has shifted is the allocation of my internal resources. Instead of being drained by commentary and opinion, they’re directed toward meeting reality as it is.

Sokū (息)... To breathe... rest... to experience the natural pause 360°. It’s not an explicit intention or goal, however Zen training and practice, in my experience tends to influence our ability to pause and respond, rather than panic and react, in difficult or hard moments.

In my experience, zen is a very direct path. It’s thinking mind that inserts indirectness.

Iyoi (愈) 一 to heal; a return to completeness, to wholeness.

Healing is not an escape from suffering, nor a project to repair what we imagine is broken. Often it is a leaning toward what hurts一without distraction, without story, without the demand一and a willingness to compost our experience.

What is zen? Freedom from giving our attention to mind’s narrative of suffering.

When we align our words and actions with the intention to love, we're not performing kindness or following a rule; we're recognizing something true about our authentic nature.

Identity passes through awareness like weather through seamless, unbroken sky. It never owns the space it moves through. It’s simply making temporary use of what is always free and available.
