The best argument against this, I think, is that the problematic ideas "imported" by other countries aren't really that much worse or different than our own. Our problematic ideas are mostly driven by our dominant culture of straight white guys.

I agree, but diversity of values isn't always how it plays out. The cultural mosaic assumes integration and spread, whereas fast/intense immigration results in more concentrated/insulated diasporas. This is especially evident in BC where SE Asians are often tough on crime and gender.

Where your ancestors from is a different question though, no? It's a bit of a touchy subject. I'm pro immigration but I think it is naive not to acknowledge that other cultures bring their own political values with them. It wouldn't change my vote but I get why someone else would consider it.

There's a difference between "stroking" a politician and merely voting based on what your best interests are. I don't understand why people assume that Liberal voters are obsessively dedicated to party when voting trends prove that they are not. Voting is not a zero sum team sport.

I was shocked that he didn't. I get why he hesitated because of the enormous flak the LP got over Chandra Arya. But they are always going to be held to a higher standard than the Cons, who will run and remove any problematic figures they want without comment.

It's horrifying how many people feel comfortable calling for the imprisonment, torture, or murder of their political opponents. For all the people who cry about not having "free speech" in Canada, they clearly have no fear saying any disgusting thing they want.

Not voting is basically a vote for whoever wins. You will contribute to the outcome one way or another. Knowing that, what kind of contribution would you prefer to make? If you genuinely don't care who the federal leader is, which seems unlikely, you can protest vote.

From a foreigner's perspective, it seems quite deliberately designed to support them, beginning long before Trump was in office. I pray, though seriously doubt, that the rest of the world takes heed - protecting local and public media, and breaking up monopolies.

This is before any campaigning has been done, which I find super interesting. It does speak to how unlikeable PP is for most people. If he had a personality people were attracted to, I don't think the shifts would be so dramatic. We'll see if it's any different for Carney.

Media use, talking partners, & partisanship. This is what drives public opinion on inflation, recession, & the direction of the economy. Personal financial situation matters, too, but these things matter just as much, if not more.

Criminals are dehumanized when they punch UP and humanized when they punch DOWN, race is only one intersection of privilege. Class is another and usually, more important.

The state is fine with violence and death, as long as it doesn't disturb the social order, which this does.

Don't forget the domestic abusers and rapists that are described as "football stars" and "model students" in articles, with smiling, flattering photos of themselves.

The establishment only denigrates "criminals" that punch UP, they don't give a shit about preying on the weak.
