A couple of iridescent Colombian Chocó residents.

1. Velvet-purple Coronet (Boissonneaua jardini)

2. I found on the internet, tribe Eustylini a member of Broad-nosed Weevils Subfamily Entiminae but not sure if that is true. Any info would be greatly appreciated. #savethechoco

It was a fun week exploring new places in Ecuador. I ended up seeing 287 species, 92 being lifers, putting my Ecuador list at 906. Six of the 287 birds were Antpittas which 4 were lifers! Ecuador continues to surprise and stun me. #birding #conservation

What better way to celebrate #worldfrogday than sharing a photo of Phyllobates bicolor. Phyllobates bicolor is the second most toxic frog in the world and one of the few that can kill a human! Frogs are one of the most endangered animal groups in the world and an indicator of a healthy ecosystem.

The Gold-ringed Tanager (Bangsia aureocincta) is a stunning Chocó endemic only found in Colombia. It inhabits a narrow band of dense humid, mossy cloud-forest on the slopes of the western Andes, where it survives on a diet of fruit and insects. They are listed as Vulnerable. #savethechoco

The male Violet-tailed Sylph (Aglaiocercus coelestis) is easily one of the most striking Chocó endemics. They might be the closest thing to a real life fairy. #savethechoco
