I’ve also been thinking about solipsism. Selfishness seems a little more intentional choice- and choosing is an action.

whereas the solipsistic is tragically stuck in their inner world with an inability to engage with the other or move into action.

(My dog is ok.) My dog and I were guests in another’s home. My dog slipped out the front door while I was out. My host was deeply worried and concerned, and knew I would be too. But made and had lunch before she made any efforts to alert me or help find my dog.
