The project is a collaboration between Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indians of California, Callayomi County Water District, and Middletown Art Center (MAC). It was initiated and produced by the MAC.

The Water Baskets honor the cultural heritage of the Original People and the ecology of this place. At the highest point in town, they reflect the unification, regeneration, and revitalization of the Middletown community post-Valley Fire, paying tribute to both Tribal and community resilience.
