I have been thinking this recently about music, albeit in a digital context. Now I no longer have an iTunes library and it's all playlists/stuff shoved at me by the Spotify algorithm, I feel as if I've forgotten a load of music I used to listen to

Yes but that's because he was getting on with the serious business of governing and not worrying about comms frivolities such as "nationally significant speeches" 😡

This guy is going around calling out others for their savviness when in fact he has the ultimate "savvy" position of "no, I am looking at the business of government not just comms and politics!"

What's the average tenure of a Chief Constable these days? It'd be hard to argue that they're being sacked too infrequently, apart from in this one instance...

Lisa Nandy wouldn't even pick up the bell, let alone ring it so vigorously it flew off

Stephen, it seems you are still insufficiently grateful for all the small tax rises that could have been in the budget but weren't

It's true in some parts of London! My high street in SE London (yes it is still London) has lost a family-friendly cafe, a coffee shop, and a deli, and has recently gained a (nearly) 24-hour slots, two vape shops, and seemingly a dozen household tat shops. Local parent WhatsApp groups up in arms.

Most of the angles about how repugnant this is have been well covered, but also it's just crap, quite clearly not her own voice and obviously just a pale (not quite pale enough) echo of the kind of racist bilge that gets posted on X nowadays??

On a similar note, I once had to give this call to a man in Stockholm who then had to furiously cycle across town in order to arrive, sweating, half an hour late, to give a presentation in a second language to a group of hungry MPs in a windowless hotel meeting room.
