It's definitely skewed mine. I'd also read a lot more humorous sci fi if more than a handful weren't exclusive to Amazon. That might skew it back as it's very male dominated. I write, too, and like to recommend obscure indies in my newsletter. But a big chunk of my readers don't use Amazon. 🤣🤣

Probably just luck. I have very little time to read but have been reading works by a couple of quite prolific female authors; Patti Jansen and J J Green as well as all Rachel Churcher's books and a bunch by Julia Blake (the Erinsmore books) who writes like a modern Baroness Orczy.

I don't but there might be more male authors in the older stuff just because there were more male authors than female published in those days it seems. Among current authors it's definitely about 50:50, even though some of my favourite genres like sci fi can be quite male dominated.

I'm female but have no preference, I just like good writing, preferably witty stuff too. If the story is good and the writing poor I'll probably prefer the film. I do like my books multifaceted like life so if it concentrates on a single trope or genre I find it one dimensional and boring.

Ah if there are others then I reckon you can stick to your guns without worrying.

No two people will tell the same story even if they're... you know ... telling the same story. Will they sue you? If there is the remotest chance they will, change it. I changed the name of my world from Yarth to K'Barth because there was a Yarth invented for d&d by someone in the USA.

I can imagine. As someone who wrote during my lad's early years it certainly spoke to me. 🤣🤣

If it helps, I borrowed some of the ones Nigel Planer did from my local library (in the uk). Thanks for trying to avoid Audible they are absolute gets to authors and narrators. They lie, cheat and make up sales figures and pay us whatever they like - way less than the 0.004c per 3 mins Spotify pays.
