I think this is fair, but I would say the same about the majority of people who make a living giving political opinions on a blog. I just think most of our problems are more complex than “evil rich men”.

Yeah, you won’t get any argument from me that we need a redesign of the tax system, but you probably wouldn’t get an argument from Matt Yglesias either. People aren’t upset about his tax policies.

Most complaints about “rich evil men” are just complaints about human nature. Sadly we can’t just click a button and make everyone altruistic, and legislating away greed without touching economic progress is not an easy process

Highways are built in areas where the locals have less political power. That approach will not work for housing, we need to build everywhere.

You’re right, we need a lot more of all housing types. I don’t think what you are proposing is actually as easy as you say though. Government housing projects receive TREMENDOUS opposition from residents, even more than private development. Until we can break local controls nothing will get built.

Would you say people who provide food shouldn’t make a profit? Totally agree on the second point. We must let the market develop as much as housing as possible and fill in the gaps with government programs and subsidies.

We should obviously have some government housing, but cutting off all private development will exacerbate the problem not help it

The market is far better at deciding where to build houses than the government would be. There is nothing wrong with people who build housing making a profit, they’re providing an essential service!
