The mood shouldn’t be great so this concerns me. Their manager has just been sacked and results have not been good enough. It’s a cliche, I know, but the fact that Andy reports this as a positive is disappointing - I want to hear that there is anger in the squad, not that everyone is happy.

I see the little weasel is now backtracking on having previously said that Amorim’s “system” was an issue - he now claims that the players should have adapted to the system better and the system isn’t necessarily an issue.

And yet Neville, Scholes, and Butt will all lead you to believe that he has what it takes to manage United and whether we like it or not their voices are influential for some unknown reason. Southgate has never led a team to defy the odds, he lacks charisma and gravitas and would be a disaster

Additionally, when I’ve been at Old Trafford this past few seasons the crowd are only too willing to shrug their shoulders at poor refereeing decisions, whereas rivals benefit from creating a hostile atmosphere.
January 11, 2026 at 8:10 PM
United have been on the receiving end of consistently poor refereeing…their policy of retaining a dignified silence about this has not worked, it’s about time the manager started calling it out.
January 11, 2026 at 8:09 PM
Very silly reaction by Lacey. Frustrating for sure, but hard to believe a player goes through years of training and matches in academy and not cut out stupid habits like that.
January 11, 2026 at 7:05 PM
Frustrating. Genuinely feel that as frustrating as results have been, under Amorim I felt the team’s defensive shape was improving - but today felt open, loose, uncontrolled. Could it be that it’s not just as simple as playing 4 at the back and throwing kids onto the pitch as many have suggested?!
January 11, 2026 at 6:55 PM
It becomes speculation from this point on. Completey entitled to speculate they would have gone on a downward trajectory, whereas I anticipated an improvement if / when players returned from injury and AFCON. But we’ll never know for sure.
January 6, 2026 at 12:16 PM
Yes, I see that. And 3 points off 4th. So we both can see the same league table that shows how tight everything is.
January 6, 2026 at 12:01 PM
Additionally you could save an image of current league table to show how close they are to champions league position, to prevent revisionism that he left United in a bad state. To describe everyone who has acknowledged there is a context to United’s struggles under Amorim as Cultish is very unfair.

Hopefully the appointment beyond fletcher is successful and we can see an upward trajectory
January 5, 2026 at 6:24 PM
Would love to be wrong but I’m fairly certain that Darren Fletcher until end of season will not deliver Champions League football with this squad. That is placing faith in a manager without any history of success, anywhere in the world, over a manager with recent success in his native country.
January 5, 2026 at 6:17 PM
Who do you propose should replace him? And what should their realistic target be with the current squad? Players returning from AFCON should help, as will a MDL / H Maguire returning from injury.
January 5, 2026 at 11:09 AM
Shouldn’t Wilcox get the job as he clearly knows exactly where the problems lie and is able to identify how to fix everything….just go 4-3-3 and everything will be ok again because it worked for Pep at City? Surely it’s as straight forward as that?
January 5, 2026 at 11:06 AM
How long will it be until the Gareth Southgate or Eddie Howe rumours begin….you can be certain that the Gary Neville’s of this word will not give an English manager the same snide treatment as they gave Amorim.
January 5, 2026 at 11:03 AM
And yes, genuinely, have a good evening. 2 frustrated reds!!
January 4, 2026 at 10:55 PM
United haven’t performed or acted like a serious outfit for a long time & have only just started to put a football structure in place - I’ll not blame Amorim for that. Incremental improvements are realistic, hopefully a couple of signings elevate the others in the squad and the trajectory steepens.
January 4, 2026 at 10:54 PM
I haven’t missed your point and I know what you are saying…all i am saying is that United are struggling to beat teams who are also not in Europe and are equally as well rested.
January 4, 2026 at 10:49 PM
I have seen this movie so often this past decade…pin it on the manager, he must be the issue….get a new manager in and all will be better…rinse….repeat. A period of stability would really help, and try and improve recruitment and the squad. Both equally frustrated, but differing outlooks I guess.
January 4, 2026 at 10:45 PM
That is my point though…I see United’s current goal as getting themselves into position of Best of the Rest outside of current top 4. In which case, it is about trying to beat an equally well rested and prepared opponent every week.
January 4, 2026 at 10:25 PM
Don’t Chelsea also have a tonne more players than United? A far bigger squad due to their massive recent outlay? United’s bench today was obviously very very inexperienced and shows how thinly spread they are, no?
January 4, 2026 at 10:22 PM
Genuine question - how many teams in the league have we played where the opposition hasn’t also had a week to rest and prepare for the match. The Crystal Palace match comes to mind, but which others?
January 4, 2026 at 10:08 PM
Undoubtedly some frustrating results and disappointing dropping points at home especially - I’m just uncomfortable pinning this on the manager alone & disregarding the context of what he has inherited. To my eye, every team above us in the league looks to have a far better and more balanced squad.
January 4, 2026 at 10:06 PM
Isn’t buying good players a legitimate way of getting better? Doesn’t Pep do that? Or Arteta? Or do you belong to the “Just be a better coach” school of thought….
January 4, 2026 at 9:36 PM
And looking at the table…yes 4 points ahead of 14th…or another way of looking at it is 3 points off 4th place and Champions League position.
