I love this phrase from @sidneyblumenthal in the guardian today:
Trump’s formula in the first 100 days of his second term, and onward, is to reverse an extraordinary success into spectacular failure. His ironclad approach is that problems that don’t exist can be solved by policies that won’t work.

One of the (many) infuriating things about this oligarch is his faux self-pity and martyrdom. Living on Mars already Elon is.

Excellent article again from thomas friedman. I have experienced china and its people, read about mao and cultural revolution. Not too late to stop the USA, the democratic world would embrace it. As it stands, autocratsbl are super happy...

Attack is the go-to reaction of the fascist right. Le Pen convicted, so Matteo Salvini,“This is a declaration of war by Brussels,” he posted on X. “We will not be intimidated, we will not stop.” Dmitry Peskov “more and more European capitals are going down the path of trampling democratic norms”.

Now that we know for sure that the current USA government holds the Europeans and the EU in utter contempt, to bully, beat down, extract rent from: europeans wake up and double down on key values - democratic principles, respect diversity of opnion and culure, share burdens, care for the weaker!

EU can't have any illusions now about bad faith of this trump government. Time to take our distance, we are not a little bro to be bullied!

Everything decided and voted on by the USA in the last month has shown that it wants to walk alone and not be in a team of mutually supportive democratic nations. EU politicians send soothing messages but they are building plans to move to a self-sufficient strategy for 🇪🇺 behind the trump niceties.

Europe has to wake up from its cosy life. face the challenges and grasp opportunity to set a new long-term course. This needs to be more cohesive, more ambitious, more self-determining. Invest. Stick to important values. Be confident.

I feel for the USA under this Trump regime, although I guess it isn't surprising when you look at its history as a global force and the injuries to a proud exceptionalism. When Trump brings on tariffs to the EU, it will be galvanising force to take the next step as the world's biggest trading bloc
