Have you ever heard of "dekeing the goalie" in hockey? It’s when a player fakes out the goalie by pretending to shoot in one direction, making the goalie commit to blocking that side, then quickly pivots and scores on the other side. It’s all about creating a no-win situation for the goalie.

It may be a good time to recall that almost 100 yrs ago wealthy businessmen hatched a scheme to weaken progressive Christianity because the social gospel wasn’t conducive to corporate profits. They poured $$$ into Chr orgs that preached a different tune: the gospel of free market capitalism.

Leave fruit out in summer, and fruit flies show up. Create an abuser-friendly environment, and abusers show up. No crystal ball needed: painful stories will follow. The question isn’t *if*—it’s *when* the next four years' secrets start spilling out.

It’s time for J. Piper to stop doling out “advice”.

“My immediate concern is that she is dealing with a man who appears, at best, to be spiritually manipulative and, at worst, irrational and potentially dangerous. Piper’s response seems to overlook these serious dynamics entirely…”~Boz Tchividjian
Woman Asks John Piper’s Advice on Dealing With Man Who Says God Wants Her To Marry Him

Here’s a hard truth former cult members know:

If you are feeling the loss of a loved one (human or beloved pet) and need to sit with it for a minute, here are two songs that feel so real. One was inspired the loss of a dad, the other by the loss of a mom. They both make me cry but sometimes "the sad songs say so much." 1/3

Terrifying! I've driven that road a million times. It's desolate. The thought of being followed for 40 minutes in that area by someone who hates you and is willing to commit violence, yikes. This is the stuff I thought we could wish away when I was younger.

A thought experiment: What if we analyzed MAGA and Trump using Robert Jay Lifton’s “eight criteria for thought reform”? How might they fit—or not—into the framework of a modern-day cult? Here’s my take. Agree, disagree, or add your perspective. Let’s dive in! 🧵 1/9

Failed to add this one earlier. I appreciated the first section most. I continue to ask myself, "Where are you?" And: where are you right now, where were you just now, where do you want to be? Not in a judgemental or negative way but being open to my own internal stuff, with curiosity.

Have been listening to more audio books. A few of these were in 2023, most were read (listened to) in 2024. Some were ok, some were deeply impactful.
