Husband, father, writer of crime fiction, and general all round average bloke. The photo isn't me, it's my greyhound who is sadly no longer with us.

Surprised at how few books I've read this year. Spent months struggling with re-reading The Stand. It hasn't stood the test of time in the way so many other King novels have. It's really dull and at least 400 pages too long. 1/2 >

My latest novel is about 87k words in. It's probably the wildest Stanton brothers book yet, mostly because it expands both their world and their cast of characters. I'm also trying to write something that'd be almost impossible for AI to replicate. It starts pretty far from any discernible formula.

Watched Gareth Evans' Havoc over the weekend. It was so disappointing. Considering his fantastic work on The Raid films and Episode 5 of the first season of Gangs of London, I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I wanted to. The CGI turning Wales in a US city was ultimately distracting... 1/2

Trying to learn Bourée in E Minor by Bach on the guitar; mostly because Paul McCartney cited it as a partial influence on the Beatles track Blackbird. It's a deceptive bugger: it seems like it's going to be easy, but it really isn't (at least, not for my fumbling fingers).

Just watched The Wild Robot. It's such a good film. Genuinely has a load of heart. Best animated film I've seen in quite some time.

Andre Onana is a truly awful goalkeeper.

Listening to Paul McCartney's RAM because someone recommended it to me as some kind of overlooked masterpiece. It's utter garbage.

Interesting article about the state of publishing. Targets self publishing less than you might think.
‘More are published than could ever succeed’: are there too many books?
While some say the rise of the self-publishing model is damaging the industry, others feel it gives authors a fairer deal

Finally deactivated my Twitter account. With the exception of a few authors (most of whom are here, anyway), there was nothing for me on Twitter except pointless arguments with neo-Nazis and moaning about my football team.

All the finalists were fantastic and all worthy of winning in their own way (plus they all seem such lovely people), but I'm really happy that Dan won in the end. He seems to have had a tough time over the years, so his win is all the sweeter for it #MasterChefTheProfessionals

No wonder there are so many colds and flus this year. Dirty bastards are coughing and spluttering everywhere, and not a single one seems capable of covering their mouths with a hand or hankie.

Just watched an eToro ad in which all the 'people' are literally just AI generated avatars. Looked bloody awful.
