A wonderful week on the Grand Union Canal, despite record low water levels. The usual suspects, swans, ducks, herons, a great crested grebe and chiffchaff. And good to get to know people through sharing the locks. Thanks #CRT.

I love my job. But escaping into this scenery on a narrow boat for a few days has been very restorative.

It's been such a lovely evening. Watching the bats. Listening to neighbours enjoying being outdoors, and feeling very very lucky. Life's short, isn't it.

This is a glimpse of the south section of the Oxford canal, where the birdsong was so beautiful, and the birds themselves. Even a momentary glance to the adjacent fields meant seeing hares and a pheasant. Escaping into nature is very therapeutic.

Saturday Suzie. Looking quite demure. It's great to wake up to sunshine and whiskers.

First time in beautiful Whitby, on a little and short north east England road trip, catching Berwick upon Tweed, Bamburgh Castle, Durham, Lindisfarne and Warwick along the way. What beautiful places, and friendly people.

For anyone interested in the history of #CrystalPalace, the one that burnt down, not the FC, I can recommend The Invisible Palace guided walks, such as The Secret of the Sculptures. Here's Paxton with his lion's mane of hair last Saturday. invisiblepalace.org.uk/London
