History lead for Years 5-8. Passionate about primary history, Irish history, teaching empire among other things. I post photos of bread and Yorkshire puddings and I’m not sorry.
Such an amazing experience to go to the Mercury Prize in my adopted city.

Today: 5 lessons, dashing home for HA webinar to find road home blocked, dashing back to work to do webinar, dashing home from work for bedtime, Pilates, Morrisons for groceries, eat my dinner, sit down to Slow Horses and then there’s a power cut affecting the whole area. Thank god for nice candles.

Completed the MacMillan Mighty Hike on the Northumberland coast. Absolutely stunning scenery and raising money for a great cause.

Congratulations to everyone, who like me, put their lanyard somewhere easy to find. To everyone else, I hope your day gets better. #teaching

Remember everyone, underachievement is only a problem if it impacts white children. To be fair, kudos for not saying boys this time. Anyone else not achieving isn’t an issue or something we need to get ourselves concerned with fixing.

This episode of @empirepoduk.bsky.social has been an absolute revelation. I taught in Dubai for three years, including social studies and never once was this mentioned in lessons on the history of the UAE. Thank you @willdalrymple.bsky.social @anitaanand.bsky.social and Sam Dalrymple!

I’ve always been a bit sceptical about going to Titanic Belfast but my daughter really wanted to go. I was wrong! It was a fantastic experience, the highlight being the cable car ride showing how it was built.

Would love the gender critical crowd to listen to this to learn about gender fluidity and identity amongst indigenous people in the 15th century and how they were treated by the Spanish. Would be nice for them to see that cultures can be tolerant and it isn’t a new invention as some seem to think.

You know when you don’t know how things can get any worse and then somehow they do? This was me yesterday, after being recovered at the roadside when my new car had a fault that caused a dead stop on the middle lane leading into the Trafford Centre. Miraculously no-one went into the back of us.

Had a great time completing @taskmaster.tv tasks at Belsay Hall @englishheritage.bsky.social. This is me re-creating a moment from history (ssssssh about the arrow).

First beetroot harvest. A phenomenally easy vegetable to grow. Roasted with some butter beans and chickpeas, honey and feta (and a few random potatoes I found). Balsamic on top.

If I didn’t know that these are from two girls who have a thing about potatoes I’d think this was some sort of national stereotype aimed at me…

150 bags of little ducks and sweets made for our leavers. Had some Parma Violets so distributed them based on vibes (and a knowledge of the strange children in my tutor group who love them).

A visual representation of how my week is going. Here is a picture of all the screen recordings I took to film something that was 1 minute 40 seconds. 19 takes.

Another year dancing on the beach beside a ruined priory! This year with added extra dolphins putting on a show for us, but very hard to photograph. #itsgrimupnorth
