Yesterday I sat down and did four Lilies of the Valley using different media. I did a pencil close up of a blossom (which I mercilessly/ unintentionally smudged!), a gouache section, an art nouveau inspired watercolour/ink version, and a large ink centre.

Tried something different today. A small detailed field of cotton grass blossoms, medium cotton grass, and a large version. I kinda wish I had squished them closer together, and been less worried about losing or hiding bits. But I did accomplish the goal of rendering today’s prompt: cotton grass!

And here’s where I’m stopping. I just deleted a rather long self critique because I feel it’s definitely ok! I still want to try mixing more precise sketches with wild ink and then detailed paint.

It is… the opposite.
You know how they say it’s ok (good even!) to wreck your art? 😬 😑😬
(Also this paper can’t handle water. I thought it was for mixed media, but I guess that means more pencil/pen/light ink/pastel etc.)

Good post: in honour of my upcoming birthday I decided to host a crafternoon. We had snacks and I provided all the stuff to make autumnal wreathes and gave everyone a skeleton bookmark (that I designed and made myself). It was super fun!

Grumble grumble grumble! I’m trying a crochet pattern for fingerless gloves & so far total fail. The yarn: beautiful but unforgiving. It gets stuck on itself! The pattern *should* be easy. But it’s too small & I’m doing something wrong. Also. I can’t frog it to retry, I have to literally start over.

Hmph. So. I like my sketch. I like the loose colour stage. But my plan is to do a detailed foreground/cayman, blurred greenery, and I have this idea for the light? But I’m struggling against the software and my skill level. So not satisfied with it, but still pleased with the progress. Onward!
