All articles I have seen call them Border Patrol. Mexico border is 1,619 from North Carolina. So what border are they guarding?

This happened about a mile from me. Some comments on Fbk have indicated that some believe ICE thugs are staying at luxury accommodations in Ballentyne area. Paid by taxpayer dollars, of course. Can this be verified? This is ICE, not Border Patrol. What border is NC near so why the euphemism/lie?
