We had ice on windows through out our childhood. My parents didn’t move to a house with central heating until I left home (and even then never put it on upstairs).

As an RC, honoured to have been welcomed to Shabbat dinners. My then small RC child v impressed that neighbour’s kids prayed in Hebrew and got candles and wine (pomegranate juice). When a Jewish mum visited school to celebrate Rosh Hashanah with challah, apples and honey she wanted to convert.

Not strictly equivalent but I’ve been to a Burns supper where a rabbi did the address to a haggis (on grounds of being the best orator).

Aren’t they slightly failing to notice that one D Trump seems to have already assembled the accoutrements of a minor dictator (bigger palace, more marble and gold, I’ve no doubt Saudi style portraits on the approach to the White House can’t be far behind)…

At my daughter’s primary, which was new in the year she started school, first parents spent months scouring Oxfam and school fairs from other schools buying books at 30p each and fund raised for ikea shelves. For DfE it’s such a low investment.

Defender of western civilisation is both quite a big claim but has quite a different meaning at the time for which it’s claimed.
