I haven't read that one, will try it.
He's written so many masterpieces, and with such diversity of subject. As well as Fatherland, Enigma etc I enjoyed The Ghost, The Conclave and the Cicero trilogy.

Couple of points (not in any way a criticism of your refreshing viewpoint as someone new to it!)

It's the story of Achilles causing disaster to his Greeks by his pride and anger, and how that is resolved, tragically.
It doesn't cover the whole war.

Funeral games were a thing, to honour the dead.
