one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

Chris Rufo reminds us that moral capitulation wins you nothing under an authoritarian regime. Give authoritarians what they demand and they just mock you for your cowardice. Ducking and covering does not work - there is literally no option other than to stand and fight for one's principles. 1/
