Another of the sculpture sketches that I made while sorting and cleaning out my Dad's wood shop several years back. These pieces were named after some of his most famously used sayings.

This one is a favorite of mine from last spring. It’s 36”x48” and about as large as I’ve worked so far. Working bigger, I learned the importance of not forgetting the small moments in a painting. Working large is working on scales within scales, each intertwined and supporting the other.

Working the size of a playing card (2.5” x 3.5”) is such a blast. At this scale, the character of each mark, scrap and spontaneous occurrence feels like it takes on a more weighty presence and import. The results feel so intimate and mysterious.
