NPR senior producer. I love this fool country and this fool cat. And my grandfather had impressive melons.
Amazing photo

Went on a witch-hunt today. Ended up at the house of Rebecca Nurse, the 71 year-old woman executed in 1692 because people were dumb and believed what they wanted to believe.

And then told my son about “The Crucible” and it’s relation to McCarthyism.

History. It burns and rhymes.

Susan, dear Susan. What a life you lead. What gifts you gave. Susan Stamberg made it BETTER for the generation of women who came after, and this woman thanks you deeply for it all:

Your joy,

Your smarts,

Your kindness.

Now rest, sweet gal. Your work is done.

Escaped to the Regency Era for the Jane Austen Society of North America’s annual convention. Learned English Country Dancing and cravat tying. Spoke to many about Mr. Darcy, Lizzie, Anne Elliot, Emma, Mrs. Jennings and fell in love with my job all over again.

My boys bidding me “ah haer haer haer” as they left for school today because they listened to ZZ Top was just one thing not on my bingo card…

$6000 for this banner.

Did the money come from donors or from the Labor Department’s budget?

Meanwhile, on Gov. Newsom’s account… the counter-trolling continues…

What a sentence:

“Lies could be told with such liberating ease - they tasted better on the tongue than hard facts.”

This is the best book I’ve read this year. Hilarious, stunning, poignant. Set in modern day Lebanon, a portrait of a teacher - incredibly funny, smart gay and traumatized - and his fierce little mother. I keep maybe 2 books a year - this one goes in my library. Sept 1st pub date.

There was a young woman who lived in a shoe… really a boot!

This debut novel is a dark & light delight. Put it on your radar! It comes out in 2 weeks!

I do want to say THIS book (reading for pleasure) is magnificent and I was so happy to return to it after my reading-for-work.

Normally I speed through text and finish within 3 days, but this one I am slow-reading, savoring page-by-page…

A question I honestly have - what of today’s objects, well made, delightful, chic - will possibly attract thrifters in 2-3 decades?

Book #26 for the year.

I did not know how much I needed a good satire.

Right now, I’m reading this, long recommended to me by my colleague - and fellow avid reader - Jason DeRose and it is freaking fantastic.

It is rare that the movie is as good as the book. Sometimes the movie is better. In this case, they’re equal and I recommend both!

Book 20 of the year: a short read I highly recommend.

She contrasts the newbie excitement of a fast-food job with the utter drudgery and soullessness one can feel after just a few weeks working said job. And there’s the counterpoint of her dad’s factory job.

The stuff with Esther is annoying though. Waiting for it to pan out. Meanwhile, here’s John Malkovitch sitting funny

The casting in this series (Young Pope/New Pope) is just phenomenal. And it feels like every shot is a portrait

I don’t watch much TV, but I’m enjoying The New Pope, especially this guy
