1/2 As part of the ongoing work by OWEKH (Offshore Wind Evidence and Knowledge Hub) to improve the offshore EIA process, we have been reviewing Evidence Notes on Marine Archaeology, providing input to strengthen proportionality and efficiency in the EIA process.

We are delighted to see Mona Offshore Wind Farm has secured consent this week having played a small part by providing advice about the marine historic environment. This is just one of several offshore wind farms with which we are currently involved, all at various stages in the consenting process.

We have been back out this week sampling the protective markings applied in 2023 to help us understand the longevity of the markers. Thanks to Historic England and RCE for funding this project. Thanks also to Hampshire Police who visited us and checked all the relevant permissions were in place.

We can honestly say this is the best First Aid course we have ever attended as Ken was able to share his knowledge of first aid and relate it to the world of archaeology and the marine environment too.

Jack and Evie, the office dogs, even got a little involved!

Last week half our team did their First Aid at Work course (the other half are doing it next month) taught by the brilliant @fenken.bsky.social
Ken is a marine geophysicist at MSDS Marine but also volunteers for the East of England Ambulance Service and is a First Aid at Work instructor.

Mat from MSDS is attending Project Tangaroa in Malta this week to support the heritage sector in the mitigation of potentially polluting wrecks and to protect our oceans. Mark also presented yesterday on the use of geophysical data.

As part of our commitment to reducing our carbon emissions we have sent Alistair and Michael off by train to Rotterdam to meet their ship rather then by flying. Its a small step, but its one in the right direction, and we are pleased to be on our journey to Net Zero!

Our conservator Carola is enjoying a week out on site in Gloucestershire with Historic England & Cotswold Archaeology as part of her cpd! Conservators can help advise archaeologists in the field to ensure the right steps are taken to get the best for the artefacts discovered.

Following a successful inspection, MSDS Marine are now an IDEST approved test centre for diving cylinders.

Jon, our ISO 17024 certified technician, will be carrying out visual inspections and hydrostatic testing of diving cylinders in addition to our existing dive equipment servicing.

Carola, our brilliant conservator, is off on her MSDS work travels again and this time is in Saudi conserving all sorts of exciting stuff. Its a bit warmer over there than it is in our Derbyshire head office at the moment and we are rather jealous of all she is getting up to!
