Are you at #EGU25 next week?

Join our soil sessions and meet us there 😊

I will also present our first German Agricultural Soil Inventory results.

See you soon and I am looking forward to all the discussions.

Yesterday was future day and it was great fun to show our work at @thuenen-som.bsky.social to the future generation of scientists.

We explored soil respiration before we went to a soil pit for soil characterisation. Finally, we counted our most important soil engineers, earthworms. 🪱🪱🪱

I joined with @sebdoetterl.bsky.social the AfroGrow kick-off meeting in Nairobi.

Exciting work on sustainable agroforestry in Africa to come. I am looking forward to being partially part of this after starting this adventure during my time at @eth-soilres.bsky.social

Separating fast from slow cycling soil organic carbon -A multi-method comparison on land use change sites.

We compared fractionation, thermal (Rock Eval) and spectroscopy to separate organic carbon pools.

Happy world soil day!

Soil of the year in Germany is the Renzina (Leptosol).

Rendzina is a shallow soil and common on carbonate-rich rocks. The name is Polish and describes the sound of a plough hitting the solid rock.

Here is my favourite photo I took in the alps.

An intense week at the MAX IV in Sweden, but we produced a lot of data to understand carbon dynamics in soils across Germany using the agricultural soil inventory @thuenenaktuell.bsky.social

Great work with @schweizer.bsky.social, @mike-c-rowley.bsky.social & Luis Hurtarte. Stay tuned! 🧪

This week I joined our filed team of the German Agricultural Soil Inventory @thuenenaktuell.bsky.social

It was great to be in the field and sample some very wet croplands 🌦️

This is our second campaign and we resample after around 10 years a national 8x8 km grid

Do you work on pyrogenic organic matter and plan to attend EGU24 (@eurogeosciences.bsky.social)? Abstract submission is open now for our session:

Pyrogenic organic matter, its properties, dynamics and biogeochemical effects on soils and connected ecosystems

Can soils adapt to root carbon inputs and what does this mean for losses of native carbon and net changes?
We discuss that adaptation and legacy effects prevent soil carbon losses with priming in our new paper just published in Nature Geoscience

Hello blsky 👋 I'm a soil scientist studying carbon dynamics across different land uses and climates. My main focus is on pyrogenic carbon and soil spectroscopy and many other interests.

Currently, I am a Postdoc at the Thünen Institute of Climate-Smart Agriculture in Germany.

Happy to connect 🙂
