I agree. Once I saw how bad it was, I couldn’t waste my reading time, skimmed the rest, and didn’t find anything to like about it.

I was disappointed and didn’t like it at all. Have you read anything by Jean Hanff Korelitz? The Latecomer is everything this book is not. Also, a better Octopus book is Remarkably Bright Creatures.

Good movie, but it’s NOT the book. I had the book on my shelf but never read it because I’d seen the movie. Now, after reading all of Frances Mayes subsequent books, and loving her descriptions of homes, gardens, art, churches, , food, wine, and travel, I finally read it. It is just as enjoyable.
