Yes! And 'Chronicle of a Death Foretold'. Or anything he's written really!

Tom Tykwer does an amazing job in that movie but I'm afraid there are things you simply cannot convey (such as the description of a smell) in a visual medium. The book is a whole different experience!

Only after sharing 18 of these did I realise most of the books that stayed with me are about obsession or isolation 🧐 I don't know what that says about me as a reader or a person 😅

'Generous'? I'm not sure. This was fully funded by the EU. And 'welcoming' might be a bit of a stretch here. The public discourse about refugees in Turkey has been quite negative and often racist. Turkish nationalism is on the rise. There's of course a lot of nuance to this, but yeah.

It shows how real civilization can grow from trust and community. Butler demonstrates how people working together and finding their place can create something beautiful, even in the darkest times.

Afaik, most US editions are floppy while UK editions are more stiff - with some exceptions of course. Personally, I find floppy books much easier to read, though in humid environments, the covers tend to curl up, which I absolutely hate 🥲
