Wow. What a strange gate for that person to keep. I guess they can keep shouting out that opinion while others of us roll our dice & create our fun stories.

Meh. Plenty of TTRPGers wouldn't be a good fit with my table (or a table where I participate as a player). Whatever. They can do their own thing. I'm glad there are plenty of others who enjoy collaborative story creation (with dice-based randomization).

Fair point. Semantically, each session is a story, whether it's stand-alone or part of a larger narrative. Holiday-themed one-shot games are more likely to be the former. Whereas, a 2-3 session dungeon delve could stand on its own or be part of a campaign, etc.

People are hostile to TTRPGs as narrative? Granted, every table (collection of GM + players) can play however they collectively agree is fun for them. But whether sessions are connected or full of "hand waved" discrepancies, meandering storyline or strong consistent arc, it's still narrative.

The one who can speak is a foreman at the dock where a group of them are unloading pallets from a ship. Since he is rare among minotaurs in being capable of full Common tongue, he prides himself on his speech being very precise & clear.

Fyi, it says "Handle Invalid" for you. I've seen a few of those. But just letting you know.

It takes effort, but new nerds can be found. (Respect to those who TTRPG online, but f2f is so much better.)

I hear you. There are different play styles, and what works for one group may not be to others' taste. (And not everyone is a great person to game with, on either side of the GM screen.)

But it is capable of being used on versatile ways, and the goal is for everyone to have fun.

Absolutely. I want the overall story arc to be satisfying to the players, so I try to weave it together in a way that we'll all enjoy. The best stories are the ones with plenty of player engagement. Also, each PC can grow & change, so the story is authentically collaborative.

Ironically, I am in the process of novelizing our (nearly-completed) campaign. But yeah, the writing has to come after the table-play because we're creating this story together. (I'm reasonably confident they'll beat the BBEG, but we'll see.)

Of course they want to talk to Smorkle, and that's fine. He doesn't want to tell them about the McGuffin within hearing of Prince Self-Absorbed Broodmeister over there. Meet him in the back alley for the same plot hook with a different slant.

It was just a one-shot, but the players woke up in a jail cell. Hung over (obviously). Accused of murdering someone that they had no recollection of.

Once or twice, I've dragged a 4th Ed module into a dark alley and looted it for usable material to play in 5e.
November 20, 2024 at 2:58 AM
I know this sounds cliche, but honestly, whatever my players would enjoy. But then, they enjoy creating the stories together, so the ruleset is secondary. We're still enjoying classic fantasy theme (homebrew setting), so it ends up being mostly 5e with a sprinkling of Pathfinder.

You do you, but my vote is for dragons. (I started with dragons.)

I had an account that I never actually used. But I deleted it. 🎉

Thanks! I actually transitioned in late 2020/early 2021. (New to BlueSky, not to WFPB eating. But happy to Follow.) 😊

As a DM... Y'all players come up with whatever crazy WTF actions, and I'll build it into the story.
November 18, 2024 at 2:38 PM
I'm new here too, but I'm a fan of your videos. I'm generally looking for more WFPB folks to follow, but I'm thinking a lot of them just haven't arrived here yet.

(Meanwhile, I'm also very involved with tabletop role playing, like D&D. They are already here in droves.) 😉

Hi. I'm new around here (of course), but I'm sure I'll be posting stories from games. I can't post anything fresh right now because I gotta keep the Spoilers away from my players.

Hey, I have a fellow writer friend who is fluent in Telugu. I don't know how much he plays TTRPGs, but I bounce my storyline development off him pretty often. I told him as soon as he gets over to BlueSky to give you a Follow.
