Private school families do chip in — at least in California. We pay local taxes that fund the public schools and then pay tuition on top of that.
The argument to be made is that if wealthy people don’t have to utilize the public option, the quality of care under the public option will suffer.

At best, you’re referencing marriages where the husband is the primary breadwinner — and even in those marriages, the husband has significantly more leisure time than the wife. The disparities widen when both spouses are equal earners.
