I wonder whether they can really separate BBC News from BBC everything else? As an institution, the BBC has a liberal bias (or at least a bias for pluralism and tolerance). I wouldn't say BBC News does.

This is absolutely a huge part of it. "Hmm well I personally may not be a fan of mass deportations however I must be scrupulously fair to those who advocate them, and anyway most people are per my twitter feed, so I'm showing my great independence by writing favourably about them"
Yeah I think things like "they're being cooked on twitter to believe the public is far more RW than reality" are truer
