His “producerist” message is a key part of his appeal. We shouldn’t underestimate the potency of this messaging.

I know there are some truly wild PERS payouts, but all-in he’s gotta be one of the highest-paid officials in the whole state, right?

Kristof’s recent column (I was hate-reading) about Portland really captured the moderate lib mindset and how much it works from the same assumptions as Trump.
The actual Trump Derangement Syndrome is opposing him cause you hate him, not because what he does is terrible.

Gaslighting language, lies, threats, thin skin - it’s very abusive energy with us, and total wimp energy when dealing with Trump and his goons. It sucks so much.

If Councilors can’t demand good answers, then they are toothless and charter reform will have only achieved moving us from five commissioners to one, with all authority under the Mayor.

In this moment, as the Wilson administration distributes misinformation and casts aspersions on the legislation proposed by Councilors, I want professionalism to mean high standards of performance, not non-confrontational decorum.

Council has to get more comfortable with asking hard questions. The people entrusted with running the City should be able to answer them. Oversight is a key function of Council, and a fear of candor will make it impossible.

He has taken the job of implementing the Mayor’s directives and City policy. If he can’t offer a basic explanation of the reasoning, that is Very Bad. Suggesting that we can only question the Mayor and not senior staff is what gets us terrible results.

She doesn’t belittle him, but she doesn’t let him evade her questions, and she clearly indicates that she’s incredulous that he can’t provide a straight answer.
IMO, we should be expect a much higher standard of performance from the person who’s making huge money to run the whole City government.

Councilor Smith asks very incisive questions about why the Mayor is putting forward a budget that cuts from City staff in order to spend $100M on shelter outside of the Inter-Governmental Agreement wit Multnomah County on homelessness.
She is not grilling an intern or newbie. Jordan runs the City.

Anyone saying they’re entitled to the office once they’re elected once is just weaponizing OR non-confrontational energy to make their own lives easier. Utter BS.
