Glorious peonies, irises and cow parsley, bought and picked for church yesterday. In a lovely jug I got from our local charity shop. #BountyofNature

Well. It's not so much that "men are outpacing women", as "women's attendance is dropping off faster than men's". From 47:38% to 27:30% since 2020. That's quite an astonishing drop in 4 years!

(This is US. UK figures are significantly lower still, and I don't know the male/female breakdown.)

"Spiritual strength is not about having such a special connection to God that we are able to convince him to say 'yes' to our requests..."

This book, 'I'm praying for you', by Nancy Guthrie, is both really helpful and really challenging at the same time!

Just been down to church to update the Mission Partners board. I joined the missions team a few months ago and it's been really good to put that 'missions hat' on again, after many years. And lots of fun to use my teacher-y display skills after even more years!

Rejoice with me, for I have at last surpassed my long-standing longest streak on #Wordle. Hallelujah!

Obviously the Bible as a whole, but Nehemiah specifically has been a standout book for me. I love Nehemiah's example of prayer, action and just leadership.

I love most of this series, but this one is a real standout. Eustace's transformation process is such a wonderful description of surrender.

Ok, I really can't decide between these, so take them both. Books that spoke to my heart and whispered (bellowed) about the magnitude of God's love. Books to make you sob. "And can it be true? And can it be true?" "Taste and see..."

A wonderful book about writing with style. It helped me understand what people see in Shakespeare's writing and why it has endured for so long. Fascinating.

I listened to the audiobook first, read by the author. It was wonderful to hear his story in his own voice. Powerful and encouraging.

A completely stunning story about a boy whose mother is dying, and how a tree comes to help. I saw the film first and immediately found a bookshop and bought the book. Astoundingly good.

Two for the price of one, today. I read these as a child and was definitely impacted by seeing how God's love transformed the lives of unhappy, 'difficult' children. I believe these stories have been used powerfully by God.

I found Louis MacNeice's poetry through a quotation in a novel, looked up the source, and fell in love. Possibly the first (only?!) poetry that actually moved me.

If the category is 'books that have impacted you', this must surely qualify. A faithful friend through years of London exploration.

I adore this book - real letters between a writer in New York and a second-hand bookshop in London in the post-war years. Utterly delightful. Hanff's journal of her subsequent visit to London is included, and is also wonderful.

I was hooked from the opening line. Plus I love this specific copy - given to my grandma by my grandad, I think after she miscarried their first child. Such a poignant and beautiful message.
