I love this prac. Do you use the SAPS method? Or a different one? I've got to green shoots previously but they all rotted when planted into compost.

Ooh ooh and Schizosaccharomyces (we used S pombe as a model organism when I was at uni) means split sugar fungus - as in it divides by binary fission. I found out recently that pombe bit comes from a word for beer - where it was first isolated.
