Austin original
Well more City of Austin spending crap hit the fan this morning thanks to the newly adversarial @statesman (shocking in its own right). @RyanAlter of D5 has crossed several ethical & probably legal lines in his use of tax dollars. Remember to Vote NO on Prop Q!

Another example of how the Prop Q tax hike will impact us whether we own, rent, or simply enjoy a large “Bowl of Bob” at our favorite 73 yr old TexMex restaurant. Now: $14. Pass through 25% Austin tax hike: $17.50. Vote NO on Prop Q and keep queso affordable!

Hey Austin! This is the face and these are the words of the pro-Prop Q tax hike cartel: “We’re just really looking for the voters to help take care of us…”. Vote NO on Prop Q!

If you live in the city of Austin and are registered to vote, please Vote NO on the Prop Q tax hike on Nov. 4th (early voting starts Oct. 20th)

Ready and waiting for all the “half the nation isn’t as smart as I am” crowd to pounce in defense of their fragile egos.

Hey Bluesky! Feeling like all you get here are echo chamber affirmations of your political beliefs? Maybe some flowers & cat photos? Probably because Bluesky is mostly a refuge for X users who couldn’t stand facing opposition. BTW Bluesky is up to ~25 million users, while X still has 650 million.

This is good news. Highest army recruiting numbers in 15 years. What could have changed? www.military.com/daily-news/2...
Army Set to Dramatically Grow Basic Training, Riding Recruiting High
By April, the service expects to have 10 additional basic training units established across Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Still trying to figure out Bluesky’s algorithm. I get a lot of bile-spewing pablum from @joncooper-us.bsky.social @ronfilipkowski.bsky.social & @jojofromjerz.bsky.social. How do I get really interesting, intellectual content from grown ups on this platform? Ideas welcome.

Time between @ronfilipkowski.bsky.social switching from crying over the lack of a Black appointee to the next Cabinet to crying about the one “token” appointee: possibly the shortest measurable time in the universe.

Seems like another hard lesson in FAFO. Shame that too many stewards of science can’t resist delving into politics. The two, as with religion, should be separate. Hoping the new editor can make Scientific American great again.
I’ve decided to leave Scientific American after an exciting 4.5 years as editor in chief. I’m going to take some time to think about what comes next (and go birdwatching), but for now I’d like to share a very small sample of the work I’ve been so proud to support (thread)
