Cuetlaxochime (Plural) are native to México, naturally growing at the edge of forests. During the Winter months when days are shorter, the extra darkness triggers the plants to grow flowers and the leaves surrounding them turn bright red or other vibrant colors to attract pollinators (2/3)

La Cuetlaxochitl aren’t quite flowers either, at least not in the way most know them to be

The tiny yellow-green beads in the center are the actual flowers. While the vibrant petals surrounding them are modified leaves called “Bracts” (1/3)

For a more a slightly larger bloom (they shrink while drying), reflex the rose before drying by gently folding the petals back

Gives a more *blossomed* effect after they’re completely dry

I strip the stems clean of leaves & thorns, tie the stems to a hanger, placing them in a way so that none of the rose heads touch, and leave them in my closet to dry out for about a week

Hang them upside down, in a dry, cool, completely dark place (Helps preserve the structure & some of the color)

Wdym you don’t dry roses and display them for the Autumn & October Season?
