We import 25% of our steel and 50% of aluminum.
Call it what you want: a sales tax, conveniently called a tariff.
Aluminum is problematic. We don't have a lot of bauxite to mine.
Steel takes iron ore. We do have potential mines, but the ore is low quality.
Prices are going up.
