There's so much amazing open-source hardware to expand the capabilities of retro machines these days, it's incredible how different the landscape is for them compared to even 10 years ago.

In geneal I get the impression that the quality tiers for face cams goes webcams (decent quality at a cheap price) -> using a smartphone as a camera (better quality but fiddly to set up) -> using a pro/semi-pro mirrorless camera (excellent quality but expensive and needs an HDMI capture setup too).

As a Minnesotan, let me say: ohhh yeaaah, you betcha! Though really the "Minnesota" accent does have quite a lot of influence from the Scandanvians who settled our state so it would not be out of place.

"Which creature?"

"You know, it is really clever, and then it's stupid, and you can tell it what to do and sometimes to does it but you can't be sure, and some find it fascinating..."

"Heh, sounds almost like ChatGP-"

"Oui! Le chat!"

That said running one may still be a net benefit. Even if the dry-bulb ("normal") temperature goes up it's possible the wet-bulb temperature (the temperature of a thermometer coated in a layer of evaporating water, like a sweaty person) might still go down due to the decreased humidity.

It's an inherent part of how the physics of a dehumidifier works. When water evaporates it absorbs a certain amount of energy to do so. When you want to condense that water back out of the air that energy needs to go somewhere and the dehumidifier converts it to heat.
