Many years ago, I saw Ian Hislop loitering outside Woolworths near Clapham Junction. I didn't speak to him, as I was on the top deck of a 249 bus. Years later, Mrs Pike had lunch with him, but he didn't mention it.

The next street along from where I grew ups was built very early in the 20th century. Of its 60 or so houses, four have plaques commemorating crew members who lived in those houses and who died on Titanic. It must have been devastating.

I ordered a fridge freezer from them and told them about the dozen steps up to the front door. The delivery men wouldn't take it up the steps. They said AO would make them pay if it got damaged.
