Basically, until those unfair rules are changed and everyone is allowed to participate, elections in Myanmar can't be considered truly fair.

On top of that, the military wrote the rules of the game, giving themselves 25% of the seats in parliament, and making it nearly impossible to change those rules. So, even if no one was in jail, the military would still have a huge amount of power.

The military junta has always been the primary architect of Myanmar’s oppression. Suu Kyi, though far from a perfect leader, represented the aspirations of millions who dared to dream of freedom.
