Apparently she helped with the book in some capacity.

Funny, cause I found Lisa’s prose in the screenshot to be a bit much too and I wondered if the defense was somehow tied to the criticism of their similar styles.

‘The DSA mayor-elect is already flip-flopping and cozying up to the establishment.’ Or maybe he’s looking at polling numbers and saving his political capital? www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...
Private poll shows Hakeem Jeffries with 50-point lead over Chi Ossé in hypothetical congressional primary
The poll found that Jeffries would soundly defeat Ossé, state Sen. Jabari Brisport and Assembly Member Monique Chandler-Waterman.

So lower rates or no, the IOU either needs to want to sell their source of guaranteed revenue, or some legislation/regulation/exigent circumstantial would require it.

I think that requires a leap in logic as utility service areas in general do not change much. And there are examples of gov’t exploring taking over service from their IOU but I don’t know of any successes (Boulder, SF, Ann Arbor trying something unique).

All interesting information but not exactly what I was wondering about. The post I replied to implied that the % of Americans served by public power today is relevant when considering transferring IOU assets and service areas to public power.
November 15, 2025 at 9:41 PM
Genuine question: how many of those public power customers used to be served by an IOU? My understanding is that munis & co-ops popped up where IOUs were not providing service and I don't personally know of any examples where service/poles and wires/etc were transferred from IOU to public power.

Can I add: active speed limiters in vehicles. No one is legally allowed to speed so they should be mechanically/electronically prevented from doing so. I’d also like torque limiters. Just for jerks who floor it when the light goes green, but work vehicles would be complicating.

Let’s give the conspiracy theory-peddling, science-denying, self-serving guy a chance to prove he’s serious, okay? We have volumes of records of his words + actions, recent ones, that all suggest he’s not, but the NYT has to publish something, right?

I’m 37 and never listened to Steely Dan. But now that I read this, I have the urge…

I don’t understand why he even showed up. Make some literal or metaphorical noise or stay home.

This is the one I'd suggest. And being in SF, also not a bad idea to touch base with Clean Power San Francisco, the local gov't agency that offers customer programs. They could have some other resources worth exploring.

Anti-car ≠ anti-rural. The frustration comes from urban design that had the opportunity to capitalize on the density. Rural communities don’t have the density so cars serve an important need.

It’s so confusing that they don’t see the connection between safe streets and urban planning/development.

Can also give kids autonomy with a bike and letting them grow up in a city where cyclists aren’t viewed as second class road users constantly under threat from motorists. Same with adults for that matter. But go ahead, run the BMW advertorial.

Waiting for someone with the credentials on Bluesky to chime in and explain what the Institute of Sciences actually said about these 14/17 studies and the context he is cherry-picking this out of.
