If you don’t want someone else’s sexuality to be “forced” on you, then don’t post any pics of your opposite sex partners or spouse, or your “family photos”.

This is a Pride Month post.

The Michigan State Board of Education today passed a resolution on smaller class sizes--major points include:

The People for Public Education rally at the State Capitol in Lansing was such a great event! And always so much fun to share the stage with my fellow State Board of Education colleague, Dr. Pamela Pugh!

I ran for the SBE because I was sick and tired of the attacks on public education—attacks on our children, our teachers, and our schools.

The administration has now cut grants that supply healthy meals for school children, and replaced them with Hunger Games style competitions that pit school districts against one another.

We are better than this. At least some of us are.

The Network for Public Education Conference in Columbus, OH this weekend was one of the very best I’ve ever attended.

And meeting Gov. Tim Walz was just the cherry on top of the sundae! He gave a great speech—equal parts inspiring, motivating, and hilarious.

I’m refreshed and ready for the fight!

Our kids are not widgets, and education is not a business--there is no "return on investment".

Public education is a common good, and the foundation of our democracy.

Ask your conservative friends celebrating Trump's EO eliminating the Department of Education if they know *why* Pres. Carter, a former local school board member, state legislator, and governor who delivered an overhaul of his state’s education system) established the Department in 1979.

Lots of talk these days about “courage” in the political sphere.

The “courage” I respect is what it took for the Republican governor (Spencer Cox) of Utah (one of the reddest states in the US) to veto a piece of anti-trans legislation introduced by his own party.

Well done, sir.

Democrats must reclaim the high ground on public education:

No vouchers
Better special education funding
Expand early childhood education
Music, art, and PE for every child
Charter school transparency
Strengthen teacher certification
Get rid of standardized testing
Fully fund our schools
