Yeah, good point: while $7500 is a huge chunk of change in the short term, the cost of electric cars (especially the batteries) is dropping so quickly that we'll soon see future models below today's prices even without the subsidy.

Plus, the used market is developing and already sub 30k!

Great question! I think it was just the *feeling* around spending that made the difference. For example,

Previous Me: "Dammit, why are these crappy Toronto hotels almost $300 a night, and it's $400 to get a good one. What a ripoff!"

New Me: "Wow, $400 a night - glad I can afford the nice one!"
