This was Real's 14th game, including M'City x 2, Atleti x 2, Arsenal x 2, L'pool x 1, AC Milan x 1, Dortmund x 1, Atalanta x 1. Had they won the tie last night, they would've got through knock-out rounds v M' City, Atleti, & Arsenal; I'm not sure why earlier losses would diminish such a feat...

The Champions League, for the most part, is not a cup competition: an 8 game league phase, potentially followed by a two-legged knock-out play-off is 10 games before the last 16. Even in the old European Cup, in theory, a team could lose 4 games en route to the final as each round was two-legged.

This. Having the 1st leg at home gave us the platform to establish a strong lead, which we were then able to protect (& extend) in the away leg. I’d rather go into a 2nd leg with the best chance to have a lead than face the pressure of potentially having to chase the tie after a tough 1st leg away.

We signed Raya on a permanent deal, so he needs to be added to the incomings & considered the replacement for Ramsdale, not Neto. The fact we had Raya on loan last season distorts the perception of him being a new signing, but he is, and he's been fantastic this season: a clear upgrade on Ramsdale.

That would be a different statistic. If you wish to make such a count, you obviously can, but this statistic relates to a starting 11 that features none of these players.

I've liked the stat, not the reality behind it!

Since this date, at least one of these four have been in the team. Initially, the run of games started with Saka, then Martinelli, later you add Jesus, and finally Havertz - but for none of them to be in the team, you have to go back to this date.

With Martinelli now out for over a month, we're down to just four first team forwards: Havertz, Trossard, Nwaneri, & Sterling.
What alternative attacking solutions do you think might be worth looking at - for example, midfielders or defenders playing further forward? Change or formation?

Obviously, player quality is about more than G/A stats, but Atletic Club are 4th in La Liga, & he has 1 league goal & 3 asissts. Most of our fans want a goalscorer & would slate our own forwards with such G/A output.
It'd seem odd to me to bring in someone who doesn't have a clear record of goals.

I've always said this should be the case for any handball in the box that's deemed not deliberate/stopping a shot on target.
