My largest and most traumatic book cull happened in 1991, when the house I shared with my ex was squatted, and 90% of the books I had collected since my teens were stolen.

I was at that Prom. A fantastic evening, and I really don't remember anyone in the audience turning their back to the stage. I have a vivid recollection of sunglasses 🕶️ being placed on the bust of Henry Wood!
