I see you post a bunch of Azuma's early stuff. I scanned and translated some of it over the past couple years, if you're interested

3. It has a CD-ROM with a bunch of extra stuff! The CD is came with has some retro, 1998 webpages that both include extra comics and some behind-the-scenes info. If you're a diehard Azuma fan, you won't wanna miss this!

2. The original book has more content, including comics based on El-Hazard! For whatever reason, certain things did not make the cut for Recycle. Now the couple dozen or so remaining El-Hazard fans out there can finally see something they haven't before!
June 27, 2025 at 2:11 AM
Some even had to be converted to black and white for Recycle! With my scanlation of the original, we finally get to see this example of Sasami bullying in HD, as God intended.
June 27, 2025 at 2:10 AM
But what does the original "Azumanga" have that "Azumanga Recycle" doesn't? Well, it's mainly 3 things. 1. This has full-sized, full-color pages! Azumanga Recycle was printed in a standard manga format, so some of the larger Laserdisc-sized comics had to be scaled down.

In case you didn't know, before the smash success of Azumanga Daioh and Yotsuba&!, Kiyohiko Azuma was a prolific gag artist and created many sanctioned parody manga for Tenchi Muyo!, El-Hazard, Battle Athletes, and Magical Girl Pretty Sammy

Case in point, this is a full translation of the original Azumanga from 1998. This is the source of the title "Azumanga" that Azumanga Daioh later took for itself. This was later downsized into the reprinted book "Azumanga Recycle", which I released a translation for last year.

Special thanks to MartyMcFlies for helping me scan this beast. More details are on my website but this book is Laserdisc-sized and literally would not fit on my scanner. So kudos to him for having a scanner big enough!

imagine showing that to a prehistoric caveman and he beats your head in with a large rock

For anybody hungering for more, no need to worry! My next project is coming along over the horizon, you just need to be a little bit more patient. But until then, toodles!

Finally, the one other project that I've finished by now is Wallaby, which was also printed in a seperate booklet that came with Azumanga 2. I'm pretty sure it's Azuma's very first totally original manga, and it's got some funny moments in there. manga.mrmanager.org/2023/08/wall...

Geez has it already been two years!? This comic originally was published in a booklet with "Azumanga 2", which I will get to one day, I promise, okay!!! It's interesting to see the early ideas for these characters. manga.mrmanager.org/2023/08/try-...
June 4, 2025 at 10:39 PM
Before that I did a nice retranslation of Try! Try! Try!, which is a sort of prototype of the later popular Yotsuba&! series. There was a pretty low-quality translation floating around for a while, so it was super satisfying to finally fix this one.

You can read up a more detailed introduction here: manga.mrmanager.org/2024/01/intr...
This one ended up being quite the challenge and took over a year, but the result was worth it! There's variety of different types of comics you can enjoy, even if you don't know anything about Tenchi Muyo.
