TLDR; 28 Years Later's allusions to political climate, ideology, & social conditioning are more terrifying/real than the monsters that perpetuate the story but strays so far from the plot that it fails to convey its message by initial experiences being overshadowed by missing expectations entirely.

the lack of (and subsequent letdown) of impactful story/character development (much less continuation of story) has led to so much overwhelming disappointment that the prudent message ends up lost on those that need to hear/see it most. As much as I love it for what it is, its not a 28 Days film.

As a 3rd installment it needed to be a true to the franchise if they wanted faithful fans to see AND appreciate the subtext they were clearly trying to convey. Theres a LOT of metaphor I LOVED that I could rave about but, unfortunately, after waiting 23 years for the next film:

I think that layered metaphor via subtext is exquisite, I'm all for a Trojan Horse film, but it claims too much of the spotlight at the detriment of the plot. Boyle & Garland stepped away for 28 weeks later but that was no reason to completely disregard the established narrative.
