Depressing yet utterly unsurprising that it's taken two weeks for any media to report that the editor of The Times has been arrested and charged. Any newsroom trying to claim they had to wait for indictment doesn't seem to apply that logic to literally any other arrest/initial court appearance.

🧵 Welcome statement from the Lord Advocate but the support of the Scottish judiciary is not the main concern here - this is a senior bench which has paved way for more progressive approach to sexual offences trials and, even in wake of ruling, are unlikely to concede more than they have to.

People using the safety of women and girls as an excuse to campaign against marginalised people usually turn out not to care about the safety of women and girls at all. This one, involved in anti-refugee demos in Aberdeen, managed to avoid jail after throwing his then-partner down a set of stairs.

Whoever wins next year's Holyrood election will inherit a dire financial landscape. Scotland's weaker tax base compared to rUK and SNP over commitments on social security and public sector pay means there'll be no room for any new policies without big cuts elsewhere.
